Rooms 108-128: Write Your Own Manifesto

Our mission has always been to get out of the small room we’ve been living in and journey out to experience the wonder of The Other 999 Rooms.

As our motto says, we aim to “reinvent our lives: one room at a time.”

Of course, it’s hard to reinvent your life when you don’t know what you want your life to stand for.

That's why this week’s room is to write our own personal manifesto. If we want to change our life, it’s a good idea to make sure we’re creating change based on the beliefs we hold.

By definition, a manifesto is a “declaration of one’s beliefs, opinions, motives and intentions.”

Most of us probably think we know what we believe, but this exercise helps us put it on paper, then turn it into a philosophy by which we will live our lives.

Of course, you can make your manifesto anything you want. It can be a statement of what is important to you, your own personal call to action, or how you will make a difference in the world.

If you want, it can simply be how you see the world.

In any case, it’s the ideal you’ll try to live up to every day.

You can write your manifesto down in a Moleskine journal or on the back of a napkin. It can be one line, a paragraph, or ten pages. It’s your manifesto. The only thing that matters is that it’s what you believe, not what your friends, your parents, or your spouse believes.

And don’t just write your manifesto, put it up somewhere you can see it. Our goal is to ask ourselves every day if we’re living up to our principles.

That’s the real power of a manifesto. It helps us to close the gap between what we believe and how we live.

Here is a website where you can check out 10 manifestos for yourself.

In addition, I have done my own “The Other 999 Rooms” Manifesto, only I have decided to do it as a video.

As always, if you like it, feel free to share.
